Full Script

Amanda: So what are we going to do?

Jasmine: You tell me.

Amanda: Jasmine, you’ve been my best friend - my only real friend, since I moved to this city.

Jasmine: What does that matter when we’re both in love with the same guy.

Amanda: I didn’t know about you two. I swear. I never even met him with you -

Jasmine: I know.

Amanda: I wish I never met him. Not like this. You are the most important person in my life -

Jasmine: Besides Nick.

(she’s right, but -)

Amanda: I don’t want to lose you.

Jasmine: Then... Jasmine doesn’t finish.

Amanda: I just - can’t pretend I don’t have feelings for him.

Jasmine: So where does that leave us?

Amanda: Do you still - feel the same way about him?

Jasmine: We’re engaged, Amanda. It wasn’t some fling. It wasn’t a few nights or even months of being together. We’ve been engaged for 2 years. It’s - Jasmine sighs and stops herself.

Amanda: What is it?

(sighs)

Jasmine: I almost broke it off with him once. A few months ago. I told him I wasn’t sure I felt the same way anymore. He had been so absorbed with work. You remember how many times I tried to get you to meet him. He’s always working... So we had a bad week. That’s all. But I don’t feel that way anymore. It was a moment, just a stupid moment of - honesty - I should have never let happen. It’s my fault he did this. I just can’t believe he did it with my best friend. Amanda tries to find the words.

Amanda: I love him, Jasmine. And I don’t know what to do with that. Jasmine is taken aback.

Jasmine: You’ve known each other for what, a month?

(gathers confidence)

Amanda: Maybe. But I don’t have doubts or second guesses. I know how I feel. And I think he feels the same way. No... I know he does.

Jasmine: What’s that supposed to mean?

Amanda: He told me he loves me.

Jasmine: What? When?!

Amanda: Last night. He feels bad. We both do. It’s a horrible position for us all to be in.

(absorbing the blow)

Jasmine: No - looks like I’m the only one in the horrible position. The thing is Amanda, you can’t have everything. One of us had to go. Guess it always had to be me. I hope you’re happy together. Jasmine gets up and walks out. Amanda turns.

Amanda: Jasmine! Jasmine keeps walking. Amanda just sulks, helpless.
