Full Script
Guy: So what’s up, Em.
Emily: What’s up, Em? That’s how you say hi on a first date?
Guy: Come on, this isn’t a date. Let alone, a first.
Emily: Guy, you agreed to this. If we’re going to try it out, we gotta make it real. Now go on...
(laughs)
Guy: Okay... Hi, how are you this evening?
Emily: Very well, thank you. You look handsome tonight.
(stops himself)
Guy: And you look - Do we really have to do this? You’re like my sister.
Emily: Only because you let yourself see me that way. Pretend you just met me. What would you say to me?
Guy: I dunno... I pretty much know everything about you.
Emily: You think you do.
Guy: Oh I do... your favorite shows are Hallmark movies and the titles all start with “Christmas,” you like cereal almost every morning, Trix to be exact, even though it’s gross and turns the milk rainbow colors. Your favorite band is Green Day, and no one else could ever guess that... oh, and you hate the sound nail clippers make when they cut your nails. Did I miss anything?
Emily: You missed everything. That little stuff doesn’t matter. Would you learn that on a first date? That’s the point of this... Get to know me. Maybe I’ll surprise you.
(thinks)
Guy: Okay... So what’s your favorite thing to do for fun?
Emily: Actually, I love waking up early to see the sunrise. Even when It’s cloudy out and you can barely see any sun. Something about the way the morning makes you feel... alive and new. Like the day’s gonna be a good one.
Guy: Really? But we used to stay out late together so many times. Just messing around, playing video games.
Emily: That was nice too.
Guy: Okay, if you had to choose, what’s your favorite video game system?
Emily: Actually... I don’t really like video games.
Guy: What?! Now you’re just lyin.
(beat)
Emily: It was never about the video games, Guy. I just... like hanging out with you. Guy lets that sink in. She smiles at him. He looks at Emily in a new way for the first time. She notices.
Guy: I can’t believe I never noticed how pretty your smile is. She smiles bigger and laughs. Guy smiles back. He clears his throat.
Guy: Hey... do you wanna watch the sunrise with me tomorrow morning? Emily smiles.
Emily: I’d love that.
