Stephanie: Oh wow, you showed up.

(gruffly)

John: You asked me to.

(smiles a little)

Stephanie: Yeah. I did. I love you John, but you were never the warmest, were you.

John: So how you been Steph? Stephanie shakes her head, it’s hard to answer.

Stephanie: Oh, I think you know. And you? Well -

John: It doesn’t bother me, I can take it.

Stephanie: You always were a tough guy. Rachel always wondered how a sweet, innocent girl from Iowa could marry a tough New York City cop.

John: And?

Stephanie: I fell in love with you. You’re my tough guy.

John: Was...

Stephanie: Yeah.

John: Listen, since I’m here, there’s somehtin’ I want to get off my chest.

Stephanie: Okay.

John: This was my fault. Not yours. I don’t want you to feel any blame or guilt okay?

Stephanie: It wasn’t your fault and I don’t feel -

John: No, you do. I know you do. That hits Stephanie hard. He can see her guilt.

John: The truth is, I shouldn’ta left you the way I did. It wasn’t right.

Stephanie: You didn’t have a choice -

John: I did. I put myself in harm’s way. I thought more about the job and the people I was tryin to help than - Well than the person that mattered most -

Stephanie: Every night, I still set your place setting. I know it makes no sense and I need to move on, but it makes me feel like you’re still here. What we had was... everything to me.

John: Me too.

Stephanie: And it was unfinished. It was never supposed to finish -

John: Everything comes to an end, Steph. Everything. Stephanie looks up. John starts to disappear before her eyes.

Stephanie: No! No, John, please.

John: It wasn’t your fault. John disappears. Stephanie looks down at his place setting in sorrow. There’s a card that reads: “John Sullivan 1978-2020” Stephanie sighs.
