Amy: Amy is fixing a drink for Charlie, who has buried his head in his hands.

Charlie: I don’t understand.

Amy: Neither do I.

Charlie: I loved her. She loved me. Everything was perfect. Why would she break up with me in a text?

Amy: If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that women are the most complicated species you will ever come across.

Amy: But trust me. They’re worth it.

Charlie: When you look at me, do you see a pathetic person?

Amy: Well... that depends on what you mean by pathetic.

Amy: Hey, buddy. Seriously, it’s gonna be okay.

Charlie: I will never get over this. No matter how long I live I will never feel pain like what I am feeling right now.

Amy: That might be true.

Amy: When I think about my first real heartbreak, I still feel pain. That shit hurts like a motherfucker.

Charlie: Are you saying this doesn’t get easier?

Amy: It’s not that it doesn’t get easier. It just changes. But that takes time.

Charlie: I can’t imagine loving someone again.

Amy: You might not.

(beat)

Amy: You might not ever love someone the way you love this girl who just broke up with you. But that’s life, Charlie. It’s part of what makes life rich. Without pain there is no joy, and without darkness there is no light. One day, when you are old and boring, you will look back on this day and think “oh how I miss feeling things the way I felt them once.” So be thankful. Life is short. Don’t skip it.
