A disagreement over a risky experimental procedure turns personal

Dr. Meredith, Dr. Derek10 lines

Full Script

Dr. Meredith: The clinical trial isn't ready. You're rushing it.

Dr. Derek: The patient will be dead by the time it's ready. You want to wait for paperwork?

Dr. Meredith: I want to wait for science. (beat) You remember science?

Dr. Derek: I remember a woman who used to take risks. Who believed in pushing boundaries.

Dr. Meredith: I also remember a man who lost three patients doing exactly this. (pause) Do you?

Dr. Derek: Every single night.

Dr. Meredith: Then why—

Dr. Derek: Because if I don't try, I lose them anyway. (beat) At least this way there's a chance.

Dr. Meredith: A chance. (silence) That's what you said last time.

Dr. Derek: And I'll say it next time too. Because that's what we do, Meredith. We try.
