Dr. Meredith: Tell them what? That we tried everything and it wasn't enough?

Dr. Derek: That we gave their daughter the best chance she had.

Dr. Meredith: She's sixteen, Derek. (beat) She came in for an appendectomy.

Dr. Derek: Complications happen. You know that better than anyone.

Dr. Meredith: Don't you dare clinical-distance me right now.

Dr. Derek: What do you want me to do? Fall apart? That doesn't help them.

Dr. Meredith: I want you to walk in there and feel it. (pause) They deserve someone who feels it.

Dr. Derek: Fine. (beat) We go together.
