THE SUBSTITUTE

Ms. Augustine: Here is a print out of my resume and a cover letter. I know you already have an electronic copy, but in case you like the real thing. I know I do.

Principal Smith: Thank you Ms. Augustine. Yes, we do already have a copy.

Ms. Augustine: Of course. Well, I was so excited to get your call. Finally, an institution that recognizes the hard work and dedication of an ornithology professor.

Principal Smith: You do realize this is a substitute teacher position.

Ms. Augustine: Yes, yes of course.

Principal Smith: Teaching English.

Ms. Augustine: Sure. But you never know where things like this lead. You know, you could be the first high school with a true ornithology department. I could lead it. And I promise to do everything I can to -

Principal Smith: We don’t have any full time positions available at this time.

Ms. Augustine: Oh ok... But we’re still good for the sub position, right?
