Big Brother

Ava: Hey Ethan. I’m just gonna borrow the car for a little.

Ethan: Whoa, whoa, whoa. No you’re not. Ava stops.

Ava: Come on, just for a little.

Ethan: No, “hey bro, great to see you. How was your first week at work? Wow, you look tired. That bad?”

Ava: You do look tired. That bad?

Ethan: Yeah, it was that bad.

Ava: I’m sorry. She gives him a sincere look. He appreciates it.

Ethan: Thank you.

Ava: Okay, see ya. Ava turns to leave again.

(she stops)

Ethan: Whoa, um no. Hold it. Where are you going?

Ava: A friend’s house.

Ethan: Dressed like that?

Ava: Ugh, I’m just taking the car for a bit, okay? I won’t be long.

Ethan: The car happens to be my car and it’s not for the taking. How do you know I’m not going somewhere? Huh? I just had a long day at work. Maybe I want to go out.

(laughs)

Ava: Okay.

Ethan: What’s so funny?

Ava: Where do you have to go? And with who?

Ethan: I have - people - to go - out with.

Ava: Yeah?

Ethan: Yeah. I do. I made a few... acquaintances... at work... who might be very interested in the pleasure of my company over a lager or two at one of the many fine, after-work establishments in this town.

Ava: Come on, Ethan, if you were meeting friends after work, you wouldn’t be here.

Ethan: Yeah well that doesn’t mean that mom and dad didn’t leave me in charge while they’re gone and how do you think they would feel if I were to let you go off to some... party, completely unchaperoned?! Ava sighs and gives him a long look.

Ava: You wanna come? Ethan is taken aback. He thinks.

Ethan: Sure. But I’m driving.
